the story...
Jim Hynes began playing the trumpet when he was 17 years old. He attended Ithaca College where he received his BM, and then went on to receive his Masters Degree from the Eastman School of Music. While at Eastman he played in the Rochester Philharmonic, until the day he decided to move to New York City. Jim quickly began establishing himself in New York and starting subbing on Broadway his first week in town. He has performed on countless shows throughout his career and continues to do so. Among them are some legendary shows such as Cats, Jerome Robbins Broadway, Chess, Beautiful (the Carole King Musical ), On Your Feet, Color Purple, as well as many others. It wasn't long until Jim broke into the recording scene in New York, where he has recorded numerous movie soundtracks, TV and radio jingles, and many news and sports themes that can be heard on the air today ( you can check some of them out on the music page ). He has performed and recorded with some of the top artists in the industry including Paul Simon, Sting, James Taylor, Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Cyndi Lauper, Elton John, Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett, as well as many others. Besides being one of the most in demand trumpet players in New York, Jim is also very busy as a conductor. He has conducted many TV news and sports themes, including the Super Bowl theme for John Williams and the CBS Evening News for James Horner, as well as many others.
Jim is also active as a clinician at colleges and high schools across the country where he gives students a first hand look at what the music business is like and the most efficient and practical way to break in. His varied and prolific career has given him insights into how to be a successful musician and he has passed that knowledge on to many young players who have since gone on to have careers in the music business.
